Death to Teddy Bear Infidels

And off to prison she goes:
KHARTOUM, Sudan - British teacher Gillian Gibbons has been convicted of inciting religious hatred for letting her pupils name a teddy bear Muhammad and sentenced to 15 days in prison and deportation from Sudan, one of her defense lawyers said Thursday...."The judge found Gillian Gibbons guilty and sentenced her to 15 days jail and deportation," said Ali Mohammed Hajab, a member of her defense team.

Emphasis, and incredulity, mine.

This soul wanted to experience another culture? Twelve years in 3 Muslim countries taught me that being a woman such as I was, that a goat had more worth than I did. I had to make sure that I behaved or my husband would be jail bait because he could not control me. I pray to God there is a Karma so every Muslim man will finally pay his price.

... Great lie of Islam? Say that out loud and please realize how ridiculous you sound. If that doesn't work, read Leviticus and you'll see that it condones the sale of daughters, even calling it a father's right. I am personally not a Muslim, in fact, I've been brought up Christian, but your caps lock stupidity has done more than any pastor to sway me towards conversion. I do, however, have simply mediocre English writing skills, but I'm pretty sure subdugation is not a word (it's subjugation). I am also not the smartest guy in the world, but your logos (which is the proper term for logic behind an argument) seems to have a serious error. You mention the intolerance (only one "l" in that word bro) of Islam, yet you contradict the very basis of your own argument by not tolerating their religion. I could say more, but honestly you wont read this again, and your intolerance is really not worth my time. Read the Qur'an, then the Bible, and realize that they both have a lot of bad stuff in them, but they also have a lot of good stuff. If you aren't religious, read Shakespeare, he also talks about objectification, and how it really is not the best strategy in the world.

Muhammad could have been the anti-christ, i don't think he was, and frankly you insult a lot of people by saying that, but you do have the right to your opinion. Here's my opinion: you are ridiculous.

Yes, this person (I hesitate to call her a soul because she is a person) wanted to experience another culture. I can definitely feel for you, for no one should have to go through objectification. I am, however, curious as to what God you are praying to. Jesus' God does not enact vengeance, so it's probably not that one. Milton's God would support your ability to choose your own vengeance. I'm not too familiar with Hindi deities. The Old Testament God may just take revenge on everyone. My point is this: praying for revenge will probably get you nothing, and do you really think EVERY Muslim man objectifies women? I can pick off the top of my head one whom I have spoken with today, and I'm sure there are many more, so to hate everyone of a certain group is almost as bad as what the people who objectified you did to you.

I personally don't agree with jailing and deporting someone for naming a teddy bear Muhammad. I personally follow Voltaire's (I think it was him) logic "I may not agree with what you say, but I'll defend to death your right to say it." I think she should of been able to name that teddy bear anything, offensive or no, and that if it did offend someone, then they can work it out.

Yes, I do support everyone's right to comment about this, no matter how much I disagree with them, but I beseech you, please don't use another's lack of understanding or hate as an excuse for your own. Maybe I'm naive, but can we just talk about it some, and try to avoid the whole hate thing. Yes, I do realize that I'm being a little hypocritical; because I did kind of hate on the all caps message, just try to be a better person than me :).

It's a shame everyone left anonymous comments--a couple of these were great. (Moses! HA!)

Personally I'm just ticked that more folks aren't making a bigger deal about the fact that this poor TEACHER wasn't the one who named the toy--it was the KIDS. She just LET them.

And they didn't name it after the Prophet. They named it after a kid in the class.

Anyone bringing his parents up on charges?

No...didn't think so...it's only if you try to bring an objet d'art into it that it's a hanging offense.

Ye gods...and here I was just telling my son during history lesson that the Dark Ages ended a long time ago...
